Jersey Employment Trust (JET) was formed in 2002, and was set up with the aim of making employment and vocational training more accessible to people with disabilities. On inheriting two sheltered workshops, Oakfield Industries and Acorn Enterprises, JET began to provide a limited range of training and employment opportunities within these business units, initially supporting just 65 people. Following a decision to extend JET’s services into the wider community, we began to work with local employers to provide a more diverse range of job roles for our clients.
With a growing demand for our services, JET has evolved to supporting clients with a wide range of disabilities, mental health conditions and long-term health conditions and we now assist over 550 clients each year within our Training and Development Service and Employment Service. Through building strong relationships with local employers and other charities in the Island, we are able to provide a bespoke job-matching service to both our clients and local industry.
Acorn Enterprises is still very much an integral part of JET and provides a wide range of training and employment opportunities for those people who may struggle to gain employment in the open labour market. The Acorn site also provides a base for our Training & Development Service team, who are able to access the various business units in order to provide vocational training in a realistic but supported environment.
