George is a key part of the Jersey Water team
George has been working in the customer services team at Jersey Water since January 2022.
He was initially on a six-month contract but he was offered a permanent post after showing what a charismatic and resilient young man he is.
‘After Le Rocquier and Highlands College, I was with the 14-21 team and this is my first proper job after doing work experiences,’ he says. ‘All of those helped me develop into the person I am today.
‘Jersey Water have been very good at helping me settle and they understand my needs. I am profoundly deaf in both ears. I carry a microphone with me in case I need it in a noisy environment.’
George, who can both lip read and use sign language, has become a well-liked and respected member of the team and Jersey Water consider themselves very lucky to have him.
‘I am very much enjoying working at Jersey Water,’ he says. ‘I’m very happy here. And I am very grateful for JET’s help. It makes a massive difference having this job and I definitely feel part of the team.’
Customer service manager Simon Le Huray said: ‘We have worked with JET several times, so when we had a temporary vacancy with our customer team, we reached out to JET to see if they had a client that might be a suitable candidate. We had fantastic support during the recruitment and selection process, including sitting in on the interviews.
‘George has been an excellent recruit. He is a hardworking, cheerful light in our office who acts thoughtfully and with kindness and is now a key part of our team.’
